Hope for Hard Times:
How to Thrive on Less

The very best way to handle life is to learn how to thrive on less - even if your source of income seems relatively secure. There is joy to be found in saving money! Less is more!

Get Crisis Help from Non-profits:
If you can get emergency food, you can use the money saved to put toward overdue utility bills. Your local non-profit organizations can help with food, others can give job counseling, even clothes for a job interview, and free budgeting classes. Contact Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning to find out where you can get immediate help in your area.

If you have no income, and have run out of savings, seek Social Services. Be aware, however, that it may take several weeks before you receive a decision on whether you have been approved for Social Services. During that time, you will need to get emergency food from a local non-profit.
